Following directions

Romi nodded and reached out to ruffle Liam's hair.

"Don't you worry none, sugar. You're safe here."

She straightened up and hooked her thumbs into her pockets. "I'm gonna go see to my business. Of you need me, or Ezem, just holler."

Liam nodded, leaning into her touch a little. "Thanks."

He listened to her retreating footsteps, then went back to his dinner with much less enthusiasm than a moment ago. When he'd managed to finish, he picked up his empty dish and looked around for a door that would lead to the kitchen. He might as well start earning his keep now, and washing dishes would be as good a way as any.
